Alessandro Del Tomba is Ricercatore Tenure Track (Assistant Professor) in Historical Linguistics (Glottologia e Linguistica). Born in Rome, he holds a PhD in Linguistics (La Sapienza) and in Comparative Indo-European Linguistics (Universiteit Leiden). He has been a research fellow (2021–22024) and a postdoctoral researcher at La Sapienza (2020-2021), an academic tutor at the University of Rome Guglielmo Marconi, fellow at the Istituto Italiano di Studi Orientali, and teaching assistant for Linguistics in the departments of Classics and of Letters and modern cultures at La Sapienza and in the department of Humanities at the University of Molise. He has also benefited from several scholarships and participated in projects, both as PI and internal team member.
His main research interests are historical and comparative Indo-European linguistics, Eastern Iranian linguistics and philology, Central Asian studies (in particular Tocharian, Khotanese and Tumshuqese), theories of language contact, and linguistic typology.
